This is a Kalle Blomkvist Mystery and is the third in the series, ( but none of the other books need to have been read prior to this).
It starts with Kalle and his White Roses (Anders and Eva-Lotta being the other members of the gang) playing their friendly rivalry summer game against the Red Roses in their quest to keep hold of the Great Stoneytotem.
After a midnight escapade against the Reds, the Whites chance upon the kidnapping of 5-year-old Rasmus and his dad, a professor who has designed a formula for a lightweight metal for weapons that could be worth a lot of money in the wrong hands.
The group quickly act. Eva-Lotta gets in that car too, and she leaves a Hansel and Gretel style trail for Kalle and Anders to follow. This leads them to an inconspicuous island where they attempt to save the day, but instead end up getting into a worse predicament.
But in the end, all is well.

“Those kids! It’s all their fault, from beginning to end. I’d rather fight the entire Swedish security service than those three.”
